Top Ways to Organize Your Kids’ Toys

Anyone who has raised kids know how easy it is for toys to take over a house.  Anyone who has ever stepped on a wayward Lego will tell you how important it is to make sure that never, ever happens again.

Organizing toys can be a challenge, which is why we wanted to talk about some of the ways you can tackle the job.

Zip pouches are a great substitute for bulky boxes

If your kids like puzzles, you can save space by putting puzzle pieces into colorful, zip-close pouches. You’ll want to be sure to cut the photo of the puzzle off of the box, and tape it to the pouch, so each one will be easily identifiable.

Organize dolls in a shoe organizer

If your home is overrun with dolls, consider purchasing a hanging shoe organizer and draping it over the back of their bedroom door.  It’s a great place to stash dolls when they’re not being used.

Dealing with the Lego problem

Trying to figure out how to best deal with a Lego situation can have you feeling as if you’re ready to pull your hair out. The good news is that there are ways to get them organized, without needing to worry about a bald spot.

Although some families think the easiest way to proceed is to organize Legos in multi-compartment storage bins (similar to what Dad has in the garage to organize nails, screws, nuts and bolts), this may not be the best fix. First, the only way this will get organized is if mom and dad are the ones doing the sorting. Second, there’s a great chance the organization system will only last as long as that box is in the closet.

Some families find they prefer to sort by color and shape, but this also doesn’t work for everyone.

If you don’t live in a household that’s filled with Lego enthusiasts, one big bin may be the way to go. If your kids have several kits, you can always separate those pieces into boxes of their own.
