Why Green Cleaning if You Have Pets?
Anyone who has ever adopted a fur baby knows the decision is associated with some thrill and excitement. Puppies and kittens are adorable- but bringing a four-legged family member into your household means you’ll have some extra cleaning to do.
Puppies are likely to have some accidents on your carpets before they’re fully potty trained, and both canine and feline companions tend to shed. A lot.
It doesn’t matter how cute the newest addition to your family is—he or she is bound to cause some pet-related stink, and that’s OK. Pet parents get that cleaning up after the fur babies is part of the territory.
Choose your cleaning products wisely
Most people are surprised to lean that data from the EPA suggests that the air inside the average home is up to 500 percent more polluted than the air outside—and it’s all due to harsh, man-made cleaning supplies.
Suffice to say, if you’re going to need to up your cleaning game, you’ll want to choose your products wisely.
How to clean pet urine
Nature’s Miracle is a great (and safe) remedy for pet urine, but if you don’t have any on hand, banking soda, water and vinegar will do the trick.
Most experts recommend combining two cups of vinegar, two cups of warm water and ¼ cup baking soda into a spray bottle. Simply spray the solution on the urine mark and pat the area dry. (You’ll want to avoid rubbing the spray into the carpet, as this is likely to push the urine deeper into the fibers.)
In addition to getting rid of the smell, this ecofriendly solution can also help remove stains.
Green cleaning for pet vomit
If your puppy or kitten has a sensitive stomach, you may find yourself needing to clean up pet puke. The best way to clean up pet vomit is to mix two cups of water with ½ cup vinegar, 1 TBSP liquid dish soap and 1 TBSP salt into a spray bottle. Spray this onto the stain, blot, and let it air dry. (You may need to repeat this several times to get the best result.)
In closing
Pet accidents will always happen, so you’ll want to be prepared. Having green, eco-friendly cleaning supplies on hand will help ensure that you, your fur babies and your family members will be able to get past these small hurdles while continuing to breathe easy.
